Artist • Sunny Smith
An award winning artist, Sunny Smith has been painting regularly since her retirement from teaching at the elementary school level in 1990. What began as an enjoyable yet challenging hobby has become a necessary and meaningful part of her life. Although primarily a watercolorist, she has worked with other water media, dry media and collage, and enjoys immensely the opportunity to experiment and try the unfamiliar. She works in series, but allows herself to follow inspirations of the moment for one-of-a-kind pieces.
Her work reflects a broad range of interests from the whimsical to the serious and includes figurative work, landscapes, still life, primitive art and fantasy. A strong interest in design, color, texture, pattern, rhythm and storytelling are evident in her paintings. Her broad range of interests, versatility, and curiosity have made her goal toward finding a unique voice a challenging but rewarding journey.
In addition to being a member of the Village Gallery of Arts, Sunny enjoys membership in the Northwest Watercolor Society (signature member), Watercolor Society of Oregon, Beaverton Arts Commission, Buffalo Grass Society, Waterworks and Viewpoint Critique Groups, and the Rental Sales Gallery of the Portland Art Museum.
